Brine flies are so populous along the shores of Mono that if you move too fast, they can't avoid crashing into you. Walk slow enough, though, and you can watch them part like the Red Sea. It's quite the visual effect - the flies spread out in undulating waves. Unfortunately, the camera was not able to fully capture the effect.
